Age in Place Consulting and Design
Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS) are accessibility professionals who are specially trained to address the needs of older people through home modification. The CAPS program was developed by the Remodelers Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the NAHB Research Center, NAHB Seniors Housing Council and AARP. The age in place consulting and design services at Ask the House Therapist include personal and room-by-room home assessments and a lifestyle survey of the current home. Home modifications that specifically address a client’s needs are incorporated into a custom interior consulting and design plan.
Our mission at Ask the House Therapist is to ensure that our clients are able to remain in a comfortable, functional and attractive home for a lifetime, even as their abilities change. Interior Consulting and Design
Good long-term home designs should take into account the unique problems and different abilities of the people living in and visiting the home. The interior consulting and design professionals at Ask the House Therapist assess a variety of physical and perceptual abilities that may affect an individual’s ability to remain in a home. These assessments take into account the following:
- Vision and hearing
- Environmental awareness and understanding
- Use of hands
- Strength and sensation in the arms and legs
- Balance and coordination
- Ability to reach
- Other physical limitations
Based on these abilities/limitations and the degrees of each, your Ask the House Therapist specialist will provide age in place consulting and design geared toward modifications that address each to improve your functional abilities in the home.
This need-specific design plan means our customers can stay in their homes longer and more comfortably, and will likely live more economically than they would if they had been forced to move into a retirement home or community.
